You say that spirits are trying to influence or control people. I have been in (or seen on tv) situations where it seems like spirits don’t want anything to do with the investigators. They appear to hide in old abandoned buildings. They also appear to get mad when new people are investigating them. How do you explain this?
In some instances, the spirits have already identified the human they are working on. As others begin to try and communicate with them, the spirits realize that their current goal may be in jeopardy. They may want to be left alone, so they can continue to do the work they started on someone else. This is true for many ‘abandoned’ buildings. Many buildings that appear ‘abandoned’ are not. Humans may sneak in to hang out, possibly do drugs or participate in illegal activities. Spirits often remain in buildings where they once interacted with a human. Since spirits do not have to worry about dying, their idea of time is not the same as ours. Staying in a building where they once interacted with a human is not a waste of their time. Spirits know that where there is a building, eventually there will be a human.
If I refuse to do what a spirit wants, will I be in danger?

It appears as though they are able to learn and remember at levels much more powerful than humans. And they have had many lifetimes to build that knowledge. Spirits are almost certainly studying you, so they can use their knowledge in trying to control you if they get the chance. Never underestimate their intelligence.
